Sustainability Policy
The Management of Unika Living, a company dedicated to the design, manufacture and marketing of furniture and lighting for residential and contract projects, establishes this Sustainability Policy and Management System as a framework of reference for all its activities.
This policy is public and is communicated to all people in the organization, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders.
1. Management Commitment
Unika Living's Management is committed to:
● Incorporate sustainability into the business strategy and decision-making.
● Comply with current legislation and other applicable environmental, labor, safety and product requirements, seeking, where possible, to exceed them.
● Promote a model based on durable designs, responsible production and efficient use of resources, encouraging buying less, but better.
● Provide the Management System with the necessary human, technical and economic resources and review it periodically.
2. Responsible product: design, durability and circularity
Unika Living understands product sustainability as the combination of timeless design, quality, and extended lifespan:
● Design timeless, functional and versatile furniture, avoiding short-lived collections.
● Prioritize durability through robust structures, quality foams and hardware, and high-strength fabrics.
● Develop, where the product allows, solutions with removable covers or with
interchangeable covers, which facilitate cleaning, fabric updating and repair before complete furniture replacement.
● Promote modularity and flexibility in sofas and storage systems to facilitate reconfigurations rather than replacements.
● Reduce overproduction through made-to-order or tight production runs and efficient stock management.
● Subject the products to internal stability, resistance and safety tests, in line with applicable technical standards (e.g., EN standards and others that correspond according to product type).
3. Environment, climate and use of resources
Unika Living is committed to minimizing the environmental impact associated with its activity:
● Use material and energy resources efficiently, promoting the reduction, reuse and recycling of waste.
● Optimize cutting patterns and production processes to reduce waste of wood, fabrics and other materials.
● Prioritize responsibly sourced timber and suppliers that demonstrate sustainable or certified forest management, provided it is compatible with technical and design requirements.
● Select materials (fabrics, stones, metals, ceramics, glass) based on criteria of durability, easy maintenance and timeless aesthetic quality.
● Periodically review packaging and transport to reduce packaging material, promote recyclable solutions and improve logistical efficiency.
● Progressively advance in the identification and monitoring of the carbon footprint of the activity, with the aim of defining reduction measures in the medium and long term.
4. People, working conditions and rights
Unika Living's sustainability is based on respect for people:
● Prohibition of child labor: do not collaborate with suppliers or employ people below the legal minimum age.
● No to forced or compulsory labor: do not tolerate practices of coercion, withholding of documents, wages or mobility, or any form of servitude.
● Guarantee non-discrimination on the grounds of gender, age, origin, religion, sexual orientation or any other condition, ensuring equal opportunities and treatment.
● Respect freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining in accordance with current legislation.
● To provide a safe and healthy working environment, by identifying and managing occupational risks, offering appropriate training and promoting a culture of prevention.
5. Supply chain and industrial partners
Unika Living extends its sustainability principles to the supply chain:
● Select and evaluate suppliers and workshops not only for price and quality, but also for their environmental, social and ethical behavior.
● Demand compliance with labor, environmental and safety legislation at all links in the chain.
● Promote production in Europe and nearby, whenever feasible, reducing impacts associated with transport and strengthening the local production network.
● Promote the traceability of key materials (wood, leather, fabrics) and the continuous improvement of quality and sustainability standards.
6. Culture, values and social responsibility
Unika Living's values are based on:
● People: promote a culture of respect, collaboration, diversity and inclusion, where the contributions of each person are taken into account.
● Quality: understand it not only as the product finish, but as a way of working, communicating and serving the customer.
● Creativity: promoting responsible innovation in design, materials and processes, geared towards long-term improvement.
Unika Living contributes to society by offering products that promote tidy, functional and durable homes, and by building transparent and trusting relationships with customers, interior designers and specifiers.
7. Continuous improvement, compliance and review
Unika Living is committed to:
● Establish and review objectives related to quality, environment, safety and social responsibility.
● Periodically analyze results, non-conformities and opportunities for improvement, updating processes and procedures when necessary.
● Maintain an open dialogue with stakeholders and clearly communicate progress and limitations in sustainability, avoiding “greenwashing” practices.
● Review this Sustainability Policy periodically to ensure its validity and suitability to the reality of the company, the applicable regulations and the expectations of the market.
